Iowa Food Hub: Value-Added Grant Recipients 2022-2023

IOWA FOOD HUB
Hosted by Allamakee New Beginning, Inc.

Iowa Food Hub, which is hosted by Allamakee New Beginning, Inc., is located in Decorah. The hub was founded by Teresa Wiemerslage, who remains involved with the hub by providing value chain coordination. Iowa Food Hub delivers healthy, locally grown food to schools, restaurants and grocery stores in northeast Iowa and parts of Wisconsin and Minnesota.

The Iowa Food Hub’s Choose Iowa grant project will improve its distribution by purchasing a second delivery truck that can hold 6-8 pallets of food. This will help the hub serve more customers in Iowa by transporting more products, adding more distribution routes and streamlining the delivery process.

The hub expects to increase consumers, increase partnerships with local farmers and businesses, and expand markets. The hub will also collaborate with other food hubs in Iowa to create a larger distribution route across the state. Through this project, the Iowa Food Hub will bring healthy, locally grown food to more Iowans.

Project Update as of May 26, 2023
From Teresa Wiemerslage, Founder of Iowa Food Hub

“Iowa Food Hub (IFH) used a Choose Iowa grant to purchase a second, larger delivery truck so they could add more routes and serve more customers. IFH is a farm-to-institution wholesale hub. Their trucks are on the road five days a week in northeast Iowa, southeast Minnesota and southwest Wisconsin. Iowa Food Hub delivers to 40 Iowa schools participating in the Local Food for Schools Program as well as Luther College, UNI and many restaurants, small grocers and childcare centers. They worked with 110 farms and food businesses in 2022.”
