Kerrie Willis is one of the founders of PLANT Washington, a young community garden and orchard in Washington, Iowa, conceived as a space to build community and fight hunger through local food production. Thanks to collaboration and financial support from local groups, PLANT broke ground in fall 2024. In time, the orchard will be a free you-pick site, as well as a place for learning and community gardening.
This summer, Kerrie and the volunteers of PLANT Washington will add pollinator habitat to the space, thanks in large part to the help of Xerces Society and PFI. Join Kerrie, PLANT volunteers and Xerces Society’s Sarah Nizzi as they share how beneficial insects help urban gardens. Kerrie will also share how she started PLANT Washington, connected with collaborators and built community along the way.
