National Farmers Market Week will take place August 2 – 8 this year. A week established by the United States Department of Agriculture to recognize farmers markets across the country, National Farmers Market Week promotes the markets, vendors, and communities that support one another in our country’s food system.

Choose Iowa is proud to have over 20 members that are farmers markets, and many members that sell their products at farmers markets across the state. Some members even host their own farmers markets and invite other farms and small businesses to set up as vendors, such as Cortum Farm and Co. near Indianola, LSI Global Greens in Des Moines, Mud Creek Farm outside Runnells, and Rinehart Family Farm near Boone. Beyond traditional farmers markets, other member farm stands and local market stores curate local produce and products grown on neighboring farms and host pop-up markets including SkyView Market near Nora Springs, Loafer’s Mill in Bondurant, The Martelle Market, One Farm Market in Logan, Sunny Seven Local Market in Harlan, The Harvest Barn Marketplace in Osceola, t a s t e and The Market in Osage, and West Forty Market in Uptown Ankeny.
One member, the Healthiest State Initiative and Double Up Food Bucks Iowa, is a nutrition incentive program helping SNAP users save their dollars on fresh fruits and vegetables at grocery stores, farmers markets, farm stands, and CSAs across Iowa, matching up to $15 per day.
